The VACCHO Boards and CEO Forum was held from the 21st – 23rd February 2017 at the Mantra Bell City, in Preston, Victoria.
Forum participants consisted of Board members from ACCHOs across Victoria and Associate Members from Victoria. Weenthunga was represented by Lin Oke (CEO) and Committee members, Kevan Horder and Brenda McDermott.
There were many interesting topics discussed at the forum that allowed members to share experiences on matters that were relevant to their individual boards. Topics covered during the forum consisted of: updates in Commonwealth and State sector health policy, leadership and its concept within Boards, the role of Board members in relation to legal responsibilities, working within conflict resolution, and managing some of the challenges and dilemmas faced by Boards. These were supported by informative guest speakers from Justice Connect, a not for profit law organisation, and from various government departments including DHHS, DPC and PHNs.
Overall the forum was a worthwhile experience with opportunities to learn about the direction of health policy in Victoria and of the good work being done through ACCHO Boards to improve health outcomes for our people. The forum also provided opportunities to network with Aboriginal health organisation representatives and further gain a greater understanding of current issues in governance.
